The Assumption Procession

Traditionally, in the Church, the Virgin is celebrated on August 15, the day of her Assumption. At the bend of a walk in the Brévedent forest, we discover a small natural cave, where a sculpture of the Virgin was placed by Madame Aline du Hauvel at the beginning of the 20th century in ex voto.

This is where for many years, the village of Brévedent has been organizing a torchlight procession which happily brings together the people of the village, the parish and the summer visitors to the campsite.

We meet at 8:30 p.m. at the Saint-Michel church, the procession unfolds punctuated by the singing of “Ave Maria” to the grotto, guided this year by Father René Malhere, supervised and secured by the Brothers of Charity.

We were very lucky to have the guitar of an Irish musician to accompany our songs. The children of the campsite decorated the cave with paper flowers and candles which gave the whole a beautiful solemn effect, thus bringing our church and this little corner of our commune back to life. The faithful thanks to the press and the communication of the parish were very numerous this year and we hope that this beautiful tradition will find every year more numerous participants. So come all sing and parade with us on August 15, 2022.
